I had always drawn as a child, however, my introduction to the vast world of art and design really occurred when I attended Red Deer College in Alberta. After completing a design diploma, I continued my studies in art at the University of Calgary and obtained my BFA. Although, I did not major in ceramics I always seemed to manage to take a sculpture or ceramic class throughout. During a foray into printmaking and painting and an IT career, I completed my Masters in Canadian Studies in Art and Culture at Carleton University in Ottawa.
My continuing interest in ceramics led me to take classes at the Gloucester Pottery School, The Ottawa School of Art, and numerous workshops over the last few years. Recently, I built my raku kiln and my creative smoke-fire containers and am working in the studio. I now particpate in the Inroads Studio Tour in the Sharbot Lake region and the Westport Fall Colours Studio Tour. My work is also available at the Riverguild Gallery in Perth, Ontario.
My inspiration is nature in all its forms; water, fire, earth and air. Decay is a common theme in my work, as I observe nature reclaiming land, deserted homesteads and crumbling human structures. The amazing and relentless forces of nature continue to inspire me.
